Knackered

I've been fighting some kind of infection since last Thursday, one of my glands in my neck is swollen and sore to touch and some mornings I've been waking up with a sore throat and the next day its gone again ... I DONT HAVE TIME FOR THIS - I've been chucking back the green tea hoping to keep things at bay! LOL

I watched a documentary last Friday night I think it was, about morbidly obese people. These people were 350 pounds plus and they were having gastric bypass operations to lose the weight ... because "everything" [diet] they tried didnt work. Sorry but thats bollocks in my opinion. Anyway, once you get to the point where you are no longer mobile, then the odds of losing weight is drastically reduced, because weight control is all about fuel in and energy out. Anyway the Surgeon who performed these operations was being interviewed and he said ... if you see a morbidly obese person who is in their 60's ... take a photo, because they are a rareity. He went on to say that once someone who is morbidly obese reaches their 40's ... they are on borrowed time. Holy $%^* (it was good Friday I can say stuff like that) I'm thinking thats 3.5 years away for me.

Then today on the train I was reading my "new testament" and this paragraph jumped out at me ... As we grow older, it's particularly important to maintain lean muscle mass. After age forty, muscles tend to diminish at the rate of one third of a pound a year. Generally speaking, men naturally maintain more muscle than women, although it's important for everyone to make an active effort to develop muscle tissue.

What is it about 40? is that the new middle age? *gulp*

Hmmmm dunno why I wanted to get that down but it's been bugging me - I guess its just all that extra info that confirms how important it is for me to get fitter and healthier ... ASAP! I've already worked out my goal for reaching 40 - going to Las Vegas and whitewater rafting the Colorado River ... why? hmmmmmmmm ... I dunno ... why the hell not? Sounds like a bit of a challenge and some adventure ooh and I love the pokies! LMAO @ me

Today was a good day at work, got a couple of jobs done that have been crossed off my task list - they've been playing on my mind for a bit and now I can erase them from my memory databank :D

Bit headachy, but I'm pickings its either this swollen gland, too busy a weekend or lack of starchy carbs over the last couple of days ....

I'm starting to get into a groove ... its pretty cool. I'm not feeling like snacking between meals anymore - I seem to be having my three meals a day and feeling quite satisfied by that. AND there are no cravings. This is huge for me. Can it really be happening? That I'm starting to eat to live and not live to eat? *shock horror*

Food today:
Breakfast - cereal, seeds, banana, yoghurt
Lunch - quarter roast chicken with skin, green salad, raw cashew nuts, fresh pineapple
Dinner - chicken stirfry - bok choy, broccoli, snow peas, peppers, mushrooms
Snacks - two green teas
Water - 3.5ltrs

Yaa for eating to live not living to eat... and just for the record, one of my new motto's is " Use it or lose it", and that applies to any age I reckon.

The rate that muscle diminishes by is quite scary. I know I buried my head in the sand for far too long!

I agree with your opinion re the bypass ops - bollocks is right! I know someone who has had one and is still managing totally wrong choices of food and not really losing nowhere as much as they could. What have they learnt?!
