When we got back to London, we caught a train out to cousin Pete's place who lives about 1:10 south of London. The first day with him we visited a transport museum called Brooklands. We'd seen a doco on TV in NZ about 6 months about Brooklands and thought it would be a great place to visit. It's the first purpose built racing track in Britain and nowadays its a historic tribute to the old British motor racing days - us being petrol heads throughly enjoyed it. It also houses a retired concorde plane - we did a tour thought it ... really TINY! - it only seats 100 passengers! We spent about 4 hours rambling about that place - really cool. The next day it was off to Brighton. On our way there we stopped in a small town called Lewes -it was a really quaint little town which housed a brewery (surprise surprise why we stopped there eh?) I saw for the first time a real LIVE HAMSTER! OMG they are sooooooooo cute! I want one ... they look like a fluffy cuter mouse about the size of a small guinea pig ... adorable! Only live about 2 years though ... thought that was quite depressing for little kiddies.
Brighton is a "sunny" seaside town the Brits use as one of their favourite holiday destinations ... I was expecting something like Whitianga - but it was nothing like that. It's an ecclectic arrangements of old style holiday apartments and streets and shops a bit like Cuba Mall here in Wellington - only 50 times bigger! The beach as expected was not white fine sand, but more like pebbles and rough looking waves. It was winter after all! Brighton is famous for its pier and we walked along the pier which is now a huge carnival park with rides and amusement stands oh and of course souvineir shops! People even get married on Brighton pier - sad buggers really.
